Andy Bartucca, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed suddenly on October 17, 2024 at the age of 80.
Andy was born on May 31, 1944 in Coringa, a small village in southern Italy. He was the third child of Giuseppe and Maria Bartucca. After immigrating to the United States with his parents and siblings, the family settled in Newark, New York. While in school, he played basketball for St. Michael’s Church and joined the varsity golf team at Newark High School, inspiring a love for golfing that remained with him throughout his life. The work ethic that would make him a wonderful and dedicated provider was apparent from a young age.
He graduated from high school in 1964 and immediately went to work as a barber at Mason’s Barber Shop. He served multiple generations of families and was known for his perfectionism, friendliness, and great sense of humor. He joined the Arcadia Hose Company of Wayne County as a volunteer firefighter in 1977.
He then became an arborist and worked in family businesses. He treated customers' homes as if they were his, consistently exceeding their expectations. Because Andy disliked waste and saw purpose in everything, the debris that was hauled away turned into firewood or mulch. He taught himself the art of woodcarving and sculpted beautiful pieces that he gifted to those he loved. If he ever took time for himself, you would find him on the golf course, in his woodshop or relaxing by the fire.
What mattered most to Andy, his pride and joy and greatest love, were his children and grandchildren. They were the twinkle in his eyes and the happiness that fueled his soul, and they will cherish and remember his work ethic, resilience, kindness, generosity, honesty, integrity, and, above all else, his big heart. His warmth, love and creative flair will be celebrated and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Andy is predeceased by his mother and father, Giuseppe and Maria; his brother, Paul; and his son, Andy.
Survived by siblings, Dominic Bartucca and Maria Fruci; wife of 45 years, Elvira Bartucca; children, Joseph, Anthony, John, and Maria Teresa (son-in-law, Andre); grandchildren, Peter Michael Karekos, Anna Maria Bartucca, Anthony Joseph Bartucca, Joseph Bartucca, and Olivia Bartucca; several loving nieces and nephews and cherished family members; and his longtime companion, Marie Tomassetti and her family.
A celebration of life will be held at St. John of Rochester (8 Wickford Way, Fairport) on November 2 at 11 AM, with reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in Andy’s memory.
