Obituary for Robert Kulpinski
Penfield: Robert “Bob” “Bobby” “Jock” Kulpinski left us on Sat Oct 30, 2021 at age 72 after a heartbreaking bout with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Lackawanna to Norbert and Betty (Nesteruk) along with older brother Norbert and younger sister Frances. He was a star quarterback and kicker for Lackawanna HS, leading them to a division championship. He then played baseball and football as a tight end at the U of R, ending with an 8-1 season, and setting a school record for career receptions. In grad school he and Rich Parrinello coached the freshman football team. After graduation, he played rugby with the Rochester Aardvarks, including a tour of Wales & England. He graduated with BS & MS degrees in Mechanical Eng. and later an MS in optical science. He spent his career in the Research Labs at Kodak, with his later years working at Carestream, mainly working on film scanners and storage phosphor applications, especially in mammography, with 21 patents filed, 4 as principal inventor.

Bob met his wife Kathleen Kilmer at Kodak and together they raised son and daughter Kyle (Leah) and Kerry (Vitor Teixeira), who have each given them 2 beautiful and happy granddaughters, Elliana, Adeline, & twins Izabella & Vitoria. He enjoyed taking them out for fun lunches & ice cream and teaching them tennis, frisbee and basketball in the front yard.

After retirement, Bob joined several golf groups and loved every minute of the golf and the camaraderie of old & new friends. He went to Florida for many years in early January for a buddy golf getaway. He and his wife traveled to New Zealand many times to visit Kerry and family, visiting Hawaii and Australia along the way. Other favorite trips were a spring cruise in Portugal, and several trips to Florida, Hilton Head and Palm Springs where desert golf awaited as well as attending the Indian Wells Tennis tournament.

We all leave a legacy and Bob’s was clearly ethical standards few of us achieve. He took the high road all the time. He virtually never spoke ill of others, and was always patient and kind. He was quite humble, never bragging about his sports & work achievements. He was adored by his children, and they sought his advice all the time. He was a great cook, and enjoyed making jambalaya, chicken pot pie, and his brother-in-law’s famous mahogany stew. He leaves a big hole in our family’s hearts in many ways.

A service for Bob will be at White Haven’s All Seasons Chapel at 210 Marsh Rd in Pittsford on Friday, Dec. 3 at 10:30AM. (Masks required)

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory will be gladly received by the local Rochester charity, Water for South Sudan, founded by Lost Boy Salva Dut, which transforms villagers’ lives with drilled water wells. Their history is told in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_for_South_Sudan
