Obituary for Debbi Lynn Stark
Debbi Lynn Stark, 58, of Fairport, NY died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 18, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and close friends after battling cancer for 8 years. Debbi was born in Akron, Ohio to Martin and Joella Rand. She grew up on beautiful Seneca Lake. After high school at South Seneca Central, she received her bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College, where her father was a professor for over 30 years. While continuing to live in Ithaca, she attended graduate school at Syracuse University and received her master’s degree in social work, the same university from which her mother received her PhD. Debbi worked her entire career with New York State spending the last 25 years with the Rochester Psychiatric Center as a social worker, treatment team leader and finally as the chief of service for outpatient services. She retired from the state this past May after 35+ years of service.
Anyone who loved her knows her passions were her family and the many members of her extended family, feeding anyone who came to the house, her dogs and other pets, Master Kim’s Taekwondo Institute, traveling, camping, flowers, reading, movies, and most of all laughing.
Debbi is survived by her husband of nearly 33 years, Doug, their children Sara, Hannah, Tyler, Sara’s husband Win, Debbi’s brother, Craig, his wife Marianne, their children, and the many people Debbi invited into our family along the way. Debbi will continue to bring light, inspiration, and optimism into all of their lives.
A celebration of Debbi’s life will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the ARTISANworks located at 565 Blossom Rd., Rochester, NY 14610 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM with a memorial and sharing of stories starting at 2:00 PM. The family will be wearing something purple (her favorite color) in memory of Debbi and invite any attend to do the same, if you so desire. Dress is casual, this is Debbi after all.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Pluta Cancer Center Foundation or the Monroe County Seneca Park Zoological Society.
