Constance Eleanor Turner McIntyre

On May 5th, 2017, Constance McIntyre went to her eternal home after years of fighting illness. Born January 16, 1946, the second child of Robert Oliver Turner and Constance Eleanor Carpenter Turner, "Sis" joined her older brother John, and was quickly followed by Ellen, Robert Jr. and Gretchen. Raised in McConnellsville, NY and graduating with honors from Camden High School, she moved to Rochester, NY in 1963 to pursue her education at Roberts Wesleyan College. She graduated with honors from Roberts and began her teaching career in Wyoming, Warsaw, and Byron-Bergen, NY, before beating out over 300 applicants for an English teaching position at Eastridge High School in 1971, where she would teach for the remainder of her career.
While at Roberts, she met her future husband Marvin McIntyre. Married in 1968, they spent the next forty-nine years in Irondequoit raising, guiding, nurturing and loving countless children and adults. Those who called her "Mom" include the three children they conceived, the two they adopted and the dozens more they fostered or welcomed into their home. She was also a loving grandma and great-grandma many times over. She is predeceased by her children James Anthony Oleksyn and Dale Albert Van Houte.
A passionate teacher who never lost sight of the student being more important than the job, she taught countless children to read and encouraged many more to pursue their best. For many students, "Miss Mac" was the first and only teacher whoever called home to tell parents positive things about their child.
After retiring in 1994 due to complications from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, she battled for many years to improve CFS research and education and to support many others struggling with the illness.
All who knew Constance were touched by her joy for Jesus, her love of literature, her generosity, and her insistence on helping the underdog. A musician, Constance had the skills of a concert pianist but the personality of a lounge player. Her larger than life personality and her love for talking allowed her to make countless special friends throughout the years.
Her family is very grateful to all who were a part of her life. Please join us for a celebration of Constance's life on May 20th at 2:00 PM at Northridge Church, 2052 Saint Paul St., Rochester, NY 14621. All are welcome to participate in a potluck meal following the memorial service. Please bring a dish to pass and lots of memories to share.
